About the Chmod Calculator
Toggle a read/write/execute checkbox grid for owner, group, and other, or type an octal or symbolic value directly. All three representations stay in sync so you can work in whichever format is easiest.
Convert Unix permissions between checkboxes, octal, and symbolic form.

chmod 755Toggle a read/write/execute checkbox grid for owner, group, and other, or type an octal or symbolic value directly. All three representations stay in sync so you can work in whichever format is easiest.
Permission checkboxes are converted to Unix mode bits, octal digits, symbolic notation, and a chmod command through local bitmask operations.
Example: The common `755` value maps to owner read/write/execute and group/other read/execute permissions.
The calculator models traditional Unix permission bits only. ACLs, ownership, umask, filesystem mount options, Windows permissions, and service-level policies can change the effective access.
Editing any one of the checkbox grid, the octal field, or the symbolic field immediately recalculates the other two.
The three digits represent owner, group, and other permissions, where read is 4, write is 2, and execute is 1, summed per scope.
No. This calculator covers the standard read, write, and execute bits for owner, group, and other.
